PRIVACY

Your words
stay yours.

Say There transcribes on your iPhone and sends text directly to your Mac. Here’s what happens to the information along the way.

Updated October 9, 2026. The free-word allowance and optional referral program described below are planned for the upcoming iPhone release.

Speech and drafts

Speech recognition uses Apple’s on-device English speech technology on supported iPhones. Microphone audio is processed in memory. The app does not create audio recordings or transcript files. Dictation does not send your audio or draft text to a developer-operated server.

Drafts for your paired Macs remain in the iPhone app’s memory. They do not survive the app terminating. Apple’s speech components may need an initial model download.

Sending to your Mac

When you send, the app sends the draft text to your selected, paired Mac over an encrypted connection on the local network. The Mac companion copies that text to the system clipboard and pastes it into the destination field when possible.

The receiving application, the operating system, and any clipboard synchronization or clipboard-history tools have their own data handling and retention. Sending text to an online service through another app is subject to that service’s policies.

What stays on your devices

Your preferences and paired-machine information are stored locally. Pairing credentials use the device Keychain; Keychain items may remain after an app is uninstalled. The planned free-word allowance, successful-send count, and any awarded word bonus are also stored locally in the iPhone Keychain. Word counts are not sent to our referral server.

The Mac companion keeps local delivery receipts and diagnostics to help prevent duplicate deliveries and diagnose failures. These can include session identifiers, timestamps, completion status, errors, application identifiers, and focus or Accessibility metadata. They do not contain dictation text. The app does not send these records to a developer analytics service.

Sharing a transcript

When you choose Share transcript, iOS offers a copy of the current text to the app, recipient, or action you select. That destination may save or send it under its own policy. Say There does not create a transcript file for sharing. Choosing to share does not send the text to our referral service.

Permissions

  • Microphone: captures speech on the iPhone while dictating.
  • Camera: scans the Mac’s pairing QR code.
  • Face ID: authorizes opening the pairing scanner. The app uses Apple’s authentication result; it does not receive your facial biometric data.
  • Local Network: allows communication between the paired phone and Mac.
  • Accessibility on Mac: allows the companion to paste and, when appropriate, press Return in the destination app.

The Mac companion does not require microphone or Screen Recording permission.

Optional referrals

The upcoming referral program activates only when you choose to participate. It needs an internet connection and sends a random installation registration, authentication and Apple App Attest key identifiers, your public referral code, a link between the referring and referred installations, a first-successful-send confirmation, and related timestamps to our service. Apple App Attest helps verify that requests come from a genuine installation of the app. It does not identify a person or prove that two installations belong to different people.

We store these records in our hosting provider’s Cloudflare D1 database to verify eligibility, prevent duplicate rewards, and award 10,000 bonus words for each qualifying referral. There is no referral limit; earned bonuses stack and do not expire. We do not send names, contacts, dictation text, audio, word counts, Mac names, or pairing credentials to this service. We do not sell the records or use them for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Use the referral controls in Settings to delete your active server registration and referral links. Records remain while you participate unless you delete them. A limited hashed deletion receipt expires after 24 hours and is removed during request cleanup so a lost confirmation can be retried safely. Deletion does not remove a bonus already stored locally, another participant’s independent registration, or an Apple purchase. It does not delete anything you sent to a Mac or another app.

Sign-in, purchases, and tracking

No sign-in is required to dictate. Optional referrals use an installation registration without your name, email, or password. There are no ads, tracking SDKs, or developer analytics service.

Apple processes the permanent unlock and offer-code redemption. The iPhone checks Apple-verified transactions and can restore eligible purchases. We do not receive your bank or payment-card details, and purchase records are not sent to the referral service.

Existing early-access reservations

New reservations are closed. For previously accepted reservations, we retain the email address, optional first name, consent to launch and offer emails, and signup time. To administer the original offer, we also store email-confirmation status, any assigned redemption code, and related confirmation, delivery, and fulfillment records. Our hosting provider stores this information on our behalf. These records remain separate from referrals and do not give us access to audio, drafts, or dictation text.

We use this information only to honor existing first-1,000 reservations and send their confirmation, launch, and redemption details. We do not sell it or use it for unrelated marketing. We keep records while administering the launch and offer unless you ask us to delete them sooner. Short-lived, hashed request identifiers help limit spam and repeated verification requests.

Verify an existing reservation or request a new link. To leave the list or request deletion, email support@saythere.app from the address you used to sign up. Deleting a signup also cancels its reservation.

This website

This website does not embed advertising, analytics scripts, or third-party fonts. Its hosting infrastructure may process technical request information, such as IP addresses and browser details, to deliver and protect the site. Short-lived, hashed request identifiers help limit spam and repeated support requests.

Contacting support

When you use the support form or email us, we receive your email address and the message you choose to send. The form also includes your selected topic: bug, question, or feedback. No name or account is required. We use this information to respond to and resolve your request.

You can choose to attach a structured diagnostics report exported by Say There. This report contains app and system versions, settings, activity and saved-pairing status, paired-Mac count, and limited diagnostic event codes. The report excludes transcripts, audio, device names, network addresses, and pairing keys. Reports are never uploaded automatically. Review what you send and leave private dictation, passwords, and pairing codes out of your message.

Our hosting provider processes form submissions. ImprovMX handles email delivery and forwarding, and our mailbox provider stores support messages and any attached report on our behalf. Support correspondence is retained while we handle your request and as needed for follow-up. We do not sell it or use it for unrelated marketing. To ask about or request deletion of information you sent us, contact support or email support@saythere.app.

Your choices

You control when to capture speech and when to send a draft. You can pause, clear a draft, change sending preferences, or revoke permissions in system settings. Fully quit the iPhone app to discard all drafts held in its memory.
